Many of us use the new year as an opportunity to start again. A second chance. Whether it’s as simple as going back to the gym or something drastic like changing careers. A new calendar on the fridge somehow just seem to motivate us into action. Yet getting another shot at things annually is still a bit infrequent for my liking – especially since I don’t mess up annually, but daily!
Though we love to give ourselves second or third chances, we also tend to give up on ourselves just as easily.. Lam 3:22-23 says “.. His mercies never come to an end, they are new every morning”. You see with God, our chances to try again are infinite. If my life is hidden in Christ, everyday is a start where tomorrow’s mistakes are not held against me. Many people might walk into a church this January thinking they’ll give God a chance to show Himself. Those that have had a hard life might arrogantly believe they are giving God one last chance.. But the fact is, we’ve never been the ones creating opportunities for God! Daily, God is the one graciously giving us another chance! Thus, every day from Him has either been an opportunity seized or squandered. And if the latter, God doesn’t want us to wait a whole year to make things right – tomorrow His mercies are new again, and today is the day of salvation.
